Pondicherry is located among the great touristic places in south India. To the north, it’s  Mahäbalipuram, or the «seven pagodas », the head of the Pallava kingdom with its famous rock temples.  To the East, it’s Gingee, Vijayanagar’s stronghold, and later Bijâpur’s bastion in south India . A hundred kilometres far to the south, in the Cavery delta, its the area of the great Cholas temples, Chidambaram, Tanjore, Ganga-kondaïcholapuram. Following the sea shore, there are unlimited beaches, fishermen's villages, and traces of the European's coming to India. Cuddalore and the Parrish industrial settlement, Porto Novo, Tranquebar with its Danish fort, the Danesborg. If we move a little farther from it, we’ll find Cape Comorin, the southern point of India, Madurai and its Meenakshi Temple, the main trade center for precious stones. To the East, there are also mountains and hills stations. The nearest is Yercaud, located only five hours by car from Pondicherry. On the other side of the hills, lies Kerala, but there begins another trip.
